Kitten Training Explained

Bringing home a kitten is a great addition to any family. But don't forget these following items, food dish with a design that fits your cat's fashion, and of course the litter box. Food would also be helpful. If you have all of these items you're all set for the kitten to come into your home.

In the beginning your new kitten sniffed out every place in its reach. It ate half the bag of cat food, and had been faithfully breaking in its brand new litter box. Now you have noticed your new cuddle monster breaking in to more things then you intended.

Maybe there are a few more items that you want to take into account when overcoming these unwanted cat problems. Believe me; many other have already come across the necessity of some basic tips on kitten training to better the behavior of their new kitten.

So just how does someone go about starting kitten training, when every time they turn around, their new kitten is bouncing off of the walls, gnawing on their owners' fingers, jumping on top of the kitchen counters, fighting on the kitchen table, and exercising their claws on your brand new furniture?

You're certainly not the first person who has come across "monster kitten syndrome" before. To start off your kitten training regimen, you'll probably want to invest in a few different things. First off, to protect your furniture from an enthusiastic kitten, get a scratching post. A simple post from your nearby department store or pet store will suffice.

But what if your precocious little kitten is still tearing apart your furniture? If you catch him in the act, gently rub his paws up and down against the scratching post, imitating the motion of scratching. Now caress and praise him. This is a wonderful accomplishment! This may have to be repeated many times before the kitten comprehends what it is you want of him, but soon he will understand.

This is a way to teach a kitten. Take an aluminum can, fill it with rocks and place tape over the top opening. Every time your kitten does something wrong shake it loudly. The noise won't hurt him but it will scare him. He will soon change his naughty ways. He will stop doing things like shredding your newspaper and life with your kitten will be much happier.

Finally, while you're kitten training, you should know how to deal with the perennial issue of kitten bites. When your kitten starts attacking your hands or feet, give him a toy. This will replace your skin as a target. A fur mouse or jingle bell ball or any other standard cat toy will do.

Wow! You have learned kitten-training basics. The learning doesn't stop now, continue to use these concepts through out you cat's life, and you will be rewarded many times over with love and affection from your furry friend. Always keep in mind to show your kitten lots of love and reward him for a job well done. Being positive will make him happier and you happier too.

Bringing home a kitten is a great addition to any family. When trying to correct cat problems, there are a few more things you should consider doing. How do you train a kitten not to destroy your home? Relax. The first is a scratching post.. Whenever you catch your kitten becoming unruly with your hands or feet give him a toy to replace your skin with. Any standard kitten toy will do such as a fur mouse or jingle bell ball. And a final note in kitten training is how to deal with the age old issue of kitten bites.
